A remarkable piece of vintage Kuwait folk art, likely created for display in a traditional diwaniya. The large gilt-framed mirror has been transformed into a three-dimensional assemblage of objects associated with the Kuwaiti home and hospitality: a pair of dallah coffee pots, small finjan cups, tall traditional brass vessels, and decorative metal incense-burner forms, all arranged symmetrically around the central textile.
At the heart of the composition is an oval-framed handwoven Sadu textile fragment, worked in red, purple and cream. The lower section features a striking stylized hand motif, while the geometric motif above echoes the bold forms traditionally found in Sadu weaving. Together, the textile and household objects turn an otherwise functional mirror into a wonderfully personal piece of Kuwait's domestic and social history.
In good vintage condition with natural patina and age-related wear throughout, all contributing to the character of the piece.
