A remarkable large-scale handwoven and densely embroidered wool textile associated with the Ma’dan, or Marsh Arab, communities of southern Iraq. The composition features bold vertical bands filled with geometric medallions, stylized botanical forms and rhythmic borders in deep red, orange, indigo, slate blue and ivory. Textiles of this type are commonly described as embroidered wedding blankets and are now collected as examples of Iraqi textile and folk art.
Estimated to date from the 1960s–1980s. Presented in good vintage condition with handmade irregularities, general age-related wear, fringe wear and localized areas of loss and fraying along one end, as clearly photographed. Its impressive scale makes it particularly suited to use as a wall hanging or decorative bed covering. The wooden display rail and clips are not included.
Dimensions: Approximately 160 cm wide × 260 cm long
