Vintage Indian Hand-Carved Peacock Chair

A wonderfully unusual hand-carved Indian wooden chair, designed around the form and plumage of a peacock. The back and arms are deeply carved with repeating feather motifs and retain layers of beautifully aged green, blue and warm red-brown paint, while the sculptural lower section incorporates carved plumage, bird-form details and distinctive feet. The extensive hand carving and wonderfully irregular surface give the chair the character of a genuine piece of Indian folk furniture rather than a modern decorative reproduction.

Likely dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, the chair retains considerable age and patina throughout, including worn paint, surface marks and old movement in the timber. One leg has undergone an older repair, but the chair remains a striking decorative and functional piece. Please handle it with care.
