Vintage Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah Calligraphy Box – Kuwait National Museum

Vintage silver-tone metal trinket box made for Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah at the Kuwait National Museum, with a striking red panel of geometric Arabic calligraphy to the lid. The underside is explicitly marked “Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah / Kuwait National Museum / Hand Made in India.” DAI was established at the Kuwait National Museum in 1983 and remained there until the Iraqi invasion in August 1990, so the marking is consistent with an 1980s museum-shop piece, although I would avoid guaranteeing the exact production year.
