Description:
Charming vintage decorative ashtray featuring a seated turbaned musician playing a traditional stringed instrument. The figure is cast metal with remnants of its original hand-painted finish and is mounted to a substantial cream-colored onyx or marble base, shaped with a shallow recessed ashtray.
Likely dating from around the 1930s–1950s, this type of cold-painted decorative metalwork was popular across Europe and the Middle East during the first half of the 20th century. The figure has developed a wonderfully aged appearance, with considerable rubbing and loss to the original painted finish, surface oxidation and general wear. The stone base also shows staining, scratches and natural veining, with some small edge wear visible. Despite this, the overall piece presents very nicely and the worn surface gives it genuine vintage character.
