A spectacular handmade Afghan Kuchi ceremonial collar or dress yoke, densely embellished with colourful embroidery, turquoise-blue seed beads, white shell-form beads, layered metal coins, embossed pendants, bells and long beaded tassels. The quilted reverse is finished in vivid green and magenta textiles, making the piece attractive from every angle. Originally intended as an ornamental element of traditional dress, it now makes an exceptional wall display, textile-art piece or dramatic collector’s object.
Estimated to date from approximately the 1970s–1990s. Vintage Afghan dress yokes and decorative panels are commonly attributed to the later 20th century, while comparable coin-adorned collars and headdresses currently range widely in price according to size and complexity. In good vintage condition with gentle textile wear, patination to the metal elements and occasional loose threads consistent with handmade construction and age. The cream fabric shown beneath the collar is display draping only and is not part of the piece.
Please let us know if you would like to purchase the collar without the display stand.
