Scarce 1985 first edition of The Evolving Culture of Kuwait, edited by Jennifer M. Scarce and published in Edinburgh by the Royal Scottish Museum / HMSO. Produced in connection with the museum exhibition Costumes and Textiles from Kuwait, the book is an exceptionally detailed visual record of Kuwaiti life and material culture during a period of rapid change. It contains 166 pages with 123 illustrations, 13 diagrams and two maps.

The book covers Kuwait's development, architecture and urban life, Bedouin society, souqs, traditional occupations, festivals, clothing and textiles, with particularly valuable photographs of Kuwait during the early 1980s. The final sections include detailed diagrams showing the pattern and construction of traditional garments including the dishdasha, farwah, sirwal and women's clothing. The preface is by Hussa Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, then Director of Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah at the Kuwait National Museum. The book is also held in the Kuwait University library collection, reflecting its importance as a reference on Kuwaiti social and material culture.

Complete with its original red photographic dust jacket and grey cloth hardcover. Overall in very good vintage condition, with light shelf wear and minor creasing/wear to the dust jacket and a few small age-related marks internally. The binding and illustrated pages present particularly well.
