The Arab of the Desert – H.R.P. Dickson, 1983 Third Edition

One of the classic works on Kuwait and Bedouin life, The Arab of the Desert was written by H.R.P. Dickson, longtime British Political Agent in Kuwait and one of the most important early writers documenting the country and its surrounding desert communities. This 1983 third edition was edited and abridged by Robert Wilson and Zahra Freeth, Dickson's daughter, and retains extensive material on Bedouin customs, tents and furnishings, tribal society, hospitality, hunting, marriage, animals and everyday desert life.

Hardcover with its original illustrated dust jacket, black-and-white photographs and drawings throughout, and the large Map of Kuwait Hinterland & North Central Arabia printed across the endpapers. Particularly desirable for a Kuwait collection because of Dickson's close connection to the country and the historical photographs of Kuwait and its people.

Condition: Good vintage condition. The original dust jacket shows general age-related wear, rubbing and wear around the edges and corners, including some small creases and losses. There are also previous-owner handwritten notes/inscriptions in blue ink on the endpaper map and near the front of the book.
