Published in London by George Allen & Unwin in 1951, this Second Edition of H.R.P. Dickson’s The Arab of the Desert: A Glimpse into Badawin Life in Kuwait and Sau’di Arabia is one of the most important early English-language accounts of traditional life in Kuwait and the Arabian Peninsula. Dickson, who served as British Political Agent in Kuwait from 1929–1936, documented tribal life, marriage and social customs, pearl diving, dhow building, desert travel and the rapidly changing society of pre-oil Kuwait. The volume is extensively illustrated with historic photographs and diagrams and retains 11 original folding maps and genealogical charts in the rear pocket.

This approximately 75-year-old copy retains its original cloth binding and includes an early handwritten ownership inscription together with a vintage Foyles, Charing Cross Road, London bookseller label. There is age-related discoloration and wear to the cloth and pages, and the original dust jacket is no longer present. An especially desirable early edition for collectors of Kuwait history, Arabian history and the works of H.R.P. Dickson.
