Description:
Absolutely incredible piece of vintage handwoven history. This is a kilim woven by the people who used to live(and still live) in the marshes of southern Iraq. The piece consists of 2 separate runner style kills which are then sewn together and embroidered and given to a couple when they got married. This one which is likely a 1960s example is fully embroidered on the entire surface which shows its quality as well as its age. These days these carpets are still woven, but the surface of the carpets are only lightly embroidered showing the transition to a much simpler style of weaving today.
Condition note: Please be very careful when attempting to clean these gorgeous pieces as they are prone to color run. They should only be cleaned by a professional and only when absolutely necessary. I would actually recommend using this specific piece as a wall hanging to extend its longevity. It does have a few spots with some wear.
