A beautiful handmade Japanese woodblock print depicting Courtesan Komurasaki of Tamaya in Yoshiwara, shown in elaborate dress beneath flowering cherry branches. The original Japanese dealer identifies the technique as woodblock printing and lists the artist and age as unknown, so I would keep the attribution exactly at that level rather than assigning it to a particular artist or period. The dealer’s example measures approximately 25.4 × 37.4 cm.

The print has been custom presented in an exceptionally elaborate vintage khatam kari frame, with multiple bands of intricate geometric inlay surrounding the work. The aged surface and subtle irregularities of both the print and handmade frame give the piece considerable decorative character.
