Description

A highly collectible copy of The Arab of the Desert: A Glimpse into Badawin Life in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia by H.R.P. Dickson, one of the foundational works on the history, culture, and Bedouin life of the Arabian Gulf.

This copy is particularly desirable as it is personally inscribed by Violet Dickson, H.R.P. Dickson's wife, on the title page:

"With my best wishes, Violet Dickson – 9.5.68."

Violet Dickson was an accomplished botanist, writer, and one of the best-known British residents of Kuwait. Together, the Dicksons spent decades living in Kuwait, where H.R.P. Dickson served as the British Political Agent. Their writings remain among the most important English-language accounts of Kuwait and the Arabian Peninsula during the first half of the twentieth century.

The book is a clothbound Allen & Unwin edition and retains its original folding maps in the rear pocket, which appear complete. It also bears the stamp of Ahmed Al-Sabah, adding another layer of Kuwaiti provenance.

A superb addition for collectors of Gulf history, Kuwait, Arabia, exploration, or signed books.
