First edition of Forty Years in Kuwait by Violet Dickson, published in London by George Allen & Unwin in 1971. One of the most important personal accounts of Kuwait during the decades before and after the discovery of oil, Dickson recounts her life in Kuwait alongside her husband H.R.P. Dickson and her experiences with Kuwaiti society, desert life and the extraordinary transformation of the country during the mid-20th century. The book is extensively illustrated with historic black-and-white photographs and maps, including images of the Dicksons, prominent Kuwaitis and scenes from Kuwait and the surrounding region. Contemporary bibliographic records describe the book as 335 pages with 16 plates. 

This copy retains its original dust jacket and comes from the former Brisbane City Council Library collection, with original library stamps, markings and lending card preserved inside. The jacket shows visible age-related wear, including rubbing, small tears and losses around the edges and spine, while the pages show expected toning and occasional spotting consistent with age and institutional use.
