An impressive antique Syrian wooden mirror frame featuring elaborate hand-turned mashrabiya latticework, carved architectural detailing and geometric bone and shell inlay. The upper panel bears the Arabic inscription الله أكبر — “Allahu Akbar”.

Probably made in Damascus around the turn of the 20th century, the frame combines finely turned wooden spindle panels with contrasting geometric inlay at the corners and crest. Syrian craftsmen were particularly renowned for combining mother-of-pearl and bone inlay with mashrabiya elements in mirror frames and furniture. The original mirror plate is no longer present, allowing a new mirror to be fitted if desired.
