Antique Japanese Imari Plate – Phoenix Medallion & Floral Design, c. 1870–1900 – 21 cm

A striking antique Japanese Imari/Arita porcelain plate, dating approximately to the late 19th century, c. 1870–1900. Measuring 21 cm diameter, it is hand-painted in the traditional Imari palette of iron red and cobalt blue with touches of green, featuring a finely detailed phoenix medallion at the centre surrounded by alternating floral, bamboo and richly patterned reserves. The reverse is decorated with three delicate underglaze-blue floral sprays, giving the plate attractive detail from both sides. The slightly irregular hand-painted decoration and minor firing characteristics add to its antique character. Condition: very good antique condition with expected light surface and glaze wear consistent with age. Brass-tone display hanger shown is included. Phoenix imagery is well documented on 19th-century Japanese Imari porcelain.
