Antique Japanese Imari Plate – Hand-Painted Floral & Bird Design, c. 1880–1900 – 22 cm

A charming antique Japanese Imari/Arita porcelain plate, dating approximately to the late 19th century, c. 1880–1900. Measuring 22 cm diameter, the softly scalloped plate is hand-painted in iron red, cobalt blue and touches of green, with an unusually loose, asymmetrical composition of flowering branches, birds and decorative objects. The reverse is finished with freely painted underglaze-blue motifs. Condition: good antique condition with expected surface and glaze wear and minor irregularities from hand production; there is a distinct brown firing imperfection/kiln blemish on the reverse, clearly shown in the photographs and consistent with the original manufacture rather than later damage. The brass-tone spring plate hanger shown is included.
