Abydos – Anubis and Horus Egyptian Postcard, 1907

An original early 20th-century Egyptian color postcard depicting a relief of Anubis and Horus at Abydos, published in Cairo by Lichtenstern & Harari, card no. 191. Lichtenstern & Harari were active publishers of Egyptian archaeological and ethnographic postcards during this period, with examples preserved in institutional collections including the Smithsonian and SALT Research.

This example is particularly nice because it was actually mailed from Egypt in 1907, retaining its Egyptian 4-millième stamp, postal cancellations, handwritten message, and London address. The front has a wonderfully muted hand-colored appearance, with light edge and corner wear consistent with its age.
