Written during a period of extraordinary change in Kuwait, Freeth contrasts the older Kuwait she knew with the rapidly modernizing country of the oil era, examining the city, markets, oilfields, desert, changing social life and the transition from traditional ways of living to modern Kuwait. 

Illustrated throughout with historic black-and-white photographs documenting Kuwait in the mid-20th century, including early commercial districts, the old bazaar, National Assembly area, Kuwait National Petroleum Company, oilfield landscapes, desert life and scenes contrasting traditional and modern Kuwait. Original red cloth hardcover with white spine lettering. First edition, 1972. The book itself is in very good vintage condition with only light age-related wear; dust jacket is not present.
