Published in Kuwait in 2011, Ras Al-Zour is an unusually detailed photographic record of the wildlife, marine life and plants found around Ras Al-Zour and the northwestern Arabian Gulf. Created by naturalist Margery Ruth Deemer, the substantial hardcover covers marine invertebrates, shells, fish, reptiles, sea turtles, birds, mammals and native plant life, with scientific identifications alongside local Arabic names.

The book is especially valuable as a record of a specific part of Kuwait’s natural environment, documenting everything from coral and mollusks to turtles, desert mammals and coastal plants. It was privately published in Kuwait through ParaGraphics, rather than issued by a large commercial publisher, and appears only very rarely on the secondary market. Kuwait Birds describes it as a “monumental task” documenting the biodiversity of the Ras Al-Zour coastline.
