A dramatic antique Japanese woodblock print diptych titled by the Japanese dealer “Occupation of Magong City, Penghu Island” and attributed to Kunimasa. The composition is filled with movement, smoke, mounted figures, soldiers, banners, and hand-to-hand action, creating an unusually intense battle scene.
The print survives in heavily aged and fragmentary condition, with losses, tears, creasing, and general wear throughout. Rather than concealing this history, it has been custom framed between double glass, allowing the irregular edges and antique condition to remain visible. In this case, the deterioration becomes part of the visual impact—the fragmented paper and battle imagery work remarkably well together and give the piece considerable presence.
Age: Circa 1895, Meiji period — approximately 130 years old.
Overall size: 50 × 60 cm
