1959 First Edition Riding to the Tigris by Freya Stark – Original Dust Jacket

First edition, first impression of Freya Stark’s Riding to the Tigris, published by John Murray in 1959. Stark recounts a remarkable journey made largely on horseback from Lake Van across the mountainous Hakkari region and south toward the Tigris, illustrated throughout with her black-and-white photographs. The 1959 John Murray edition is confirmed as the first edition and first impression.

Bound in turquoise cloth with gilt lettering and retaining its original photographic dust jacket. This copy also has an original W.H. Smith & Son lending-library label inside the rear cover, an interesting survivor from its early life. The jacket shows age-related toning, creasing and wear along the edges and spine, while the book itself remains attractive and well preserved.
