Second edition of H.R.P. Dickson’s landmark The Arab of the Desert: A Glimpse into Badawin Life in Kuwait and Sau'di Arabia, published by George Allen & Unwin in 1951, just two years after the first edition. Dickson drew heavily on his years in Kuwait and his close contact with the region’s Bedouin communities, documenting tribal life, customs, genealogy, dress, camel culture, hospitality and the social history of Kuwait and Arabia.

Importantly, this copy retains its rear pocket with 5 of the original 12 maps, together with all 6 genealogical tables. The folding maps and genealogical tables present appear remarkably well preserved. The original orange cloth binding shows considerable age and use, particularly around the spine and extremities, with rubbing and marks to the boards, but the interior remains presentable. Seven of the maps called for in the book are not present.
