Description
Published in 1927, Revolt in the Desert is T. E. Lawrence’s first widely available account of his experiences during the Arab Revolt of 1916–1918. Written by the figure who became internationally known as “Lawrence of Arabia,” the book recounts Lawrence’s travels, military campaigns and involvement alongside Arab forces during one of the defining periods of modern Middle Eastern history.
This is a 1927 George H. Doran American edition, with the copyright page stating “First Printing in America, March, 1927.” Particularly notable is the survival of its striking original illustrated dust jacket, still retaining the original $3.00 publisher’s price. The volume includes numerous period portraits and illustrations. Nearly 100 years old, the book shows expected signs of age throughout, with foxing and previous ownership notation; the original dust jacket has considerable wear, chipping, losses and historic repairs, but remains an increasingly uncommon survival and gives the book exceptional period character.
