1927 Revolt in the Desert by T. E. Lawrence – First Trade Edition with 1935 Times Newspaper Tribute

A desirable 1927 Jonathan Cape edition of Revolt in the Desert by T. E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia. Written as an abridged version of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the book records Lawrence’s experiences during the Arab Revolt and is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and full-page works after Augustus John, Eric Kennington and other artists. The original trade issue was bound in tan buckram with gilt spine lettering and published with 16 plates and a folding map.

Included with the book is an original full newspaper page from The Times, Monday, 20 May 1935, featuring an extensive illustrated tribute to Lawrence published immediately following his death. The clipping is folded and shows age-related toning and wear but provides an evocative piece of contemporary historical ephemera. The book itself has scattered marks, spotting, fading and general wear to the cloth, with toning and uneven page edges consistent with age. No dust jacket is present.
